We are a Primary Academy for local children ranging from 7-11 years of age.
We believe that all children should be given the opportunity to achieve their best within a safe and caring school community. When children leave Normanton Junior Academy, we want them to have developed a range of qualities, attitudes and skills that will prepare them effectively for the future.
Everyone who works at Normanton Junior Academy is proud of the school’s local reputation of being a well organised, happy and attractive learning environment where all children are given every encouragement to become hardworking, considerate and polite future citizens.
The staff’s ethos of inclusion and working together with all members of the Normanton Junior Academy community guarantees every individual child the support, guidance and the opportunities to truly thrive.
We believe that if the school, parents, governors and the local community work together we can improve the life opportunities for our pupils and ensure that our school is in the hearts and minds of all associated with it.
Our aim is that Normanton Junior Academy is a place where everyone is learning: we have a wonderful team of teachers and support staff who are committed to providing a high level of teaching and learning which is engaging, active and fun.
We continue to strive towards attaining a high level of academic standards across every year we teach. Staff and children are challenged to set high standards of commitment and behaviour, work hard, and have high aspirations and achievement. Staff and children alike are encouraged, nurtured and challenged to take real pride in who they are and what they can achieve; we want them to know they can make a difference.
We believe in building strong links between home and school to foster a positive and productive relationship with parents. We work together at all times to achieve the best for our children. Our eagerness to involve parents in their children’s learning and everyday school life helps to establish productive partnerships, encouraging our pupils to reach their full potential.
We Work Together
People in all walks of life are more likely to perform well when they work effectively as a team. Good team work creates synergy, where the combined effect of the team is greater than the sum of individual efforts. Through teamwork, we teach children to build trust, encourage healthy risk-taking and foster creativity through learning.
We Make a Difference
Making a difference is more important than ever and we teach our children that each one of us are capable of making a difference every single day; it doesn’t have to be anything big to really create change. Children and staff all over school work collaboratively to improve and make a positive difference to NJA every day.
Articles 28 and 29 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child focus respectively on a child’s right to an education and on the quality and content of the education. At NJA we are very lucky to have fantastic children and staff; our children develop to their fullest potential because we celebrate their successes, talents and identity regardless of their mental and physical ability.
We Have High Standards
We learn that having high standards is a key aspect of achieving – having low standards will only take you so far along your journey towards your goal, no matter how large or small that goal is. We teach the children that with high standards, you immediately raise your expectations of what’s possible; we want our children to believe that anything is possible.
We Have Respect for All
At NJA, we teach our children to acknowledge the existence of diversity within our community and to explore why respect is necessary within our school life and beyond. We have a mutually respectful atmosphere across the school between all individuals, from the children and staff to parents and visitors; this is encouraged at all times.
We Include Everyone
We pride ourselves on learning from a broad and balanced curriculum, tailored so that all children are able to access it. Our teaching staff ensure that they challenge the children; in return, our children are encouraged to challenge themselves. Our teaching staff respond to pupils’ diverse learning needs; in return, our children overcome potential barriers to learning. Including everyone is a fundamental part of what we do at NJA – it makes for a strong learning environment and a happy school family.
‘Together we learn’ is truly at the heart of everything that we do at NJA. We feel that this is best achieved through our school values, which underpin our daily life both inside school, at home and in the community. At NJA, we believe that if we empower children to succeed in life, they will be great learners and great citizens; a value-based education promotes philosophy grounded on children valuing themselves, others and the environment as well as promoting fundamental British values of democracy, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those from all faiths, backgrounds and cultures. At the beginning of each school year, the children and staff ‘sign up’ to our school values and you will very quickly see how these values are embedded in the school community.

Our comprehensive schedule of assemblies and events, as well as a broad and balanced curriculum, promote children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development; our aim is to work with our children so that they are able to develop their own moral and ethical compass to guide them to what is right and what is wrong.
