What is the Pupil Premium Grant?
The aim of the Pupil Premium Grant is to raise achievement among disadvantaged pupils. The Pupil Premium is allocated to children from:
low-income families who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals (plus pupils who have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years (known as the Ever6 FSM measure).
pupils who are looked after or in care.
pupils whose parents are in the armed services.
It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium Grant is spent. However, measures will be included in the performance tables that will capture the achievement of those deprived pupils covered by the Pupil Premium Grant. The Government also require schools to publish online details of how they have used the premium.
In order to meet the above requirements, Normanton Junior Academy will ensure that provision is made which secures the teaching and learning opportunities that meet the needs of all pupils. As part of the additional provision made for pupils who belong to vulnerable pupils groups, we will ensure that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed.

At Normanton Junior Academy, the Pupil Premium allocation is £118,360 (2021-2022). It is used strategically to ensure maximum impact on attainment by focusing on:
- improving the quality of teaching so that all pupils receive high quality provision;
- improving attendance throughout school, especially that of disadvantaged pupils;
- improving behaviour, so that all pupils and ready and highly motivated to learn;
- delivering excellent pastoral care, reducing the impact of any negative external factors on pupils’ achievement; and
- interventions for pupils identified as requiring additional or different provision.
